The Suck: Folk Singer Taylor Mitchell Dies From Coyote Attack

Such a shame to hear about this.  A young up and coming Canadian folk singer named Taylor Mitchell lost her life on Tuesday when she was attacked by coyotes when hiking.  She was only 19 years old.

It was reported that she was hiking by herself Tuesday in Cape Breton Highlands National Park in Nova Scotia when the animals attacked.

If you would like to check out some of her music head over to her MySpace page.

RIP Patrick Swayze 1952 – 2009

I’ll never forget the first time I saw Point Break as a kid.  I can still watch that movie to this day and remember how bad I wanted to be the extreme living / bank robbing character Bohdi.

Other movies I enjoyed was Road House (love that movie), Red DawnDirty Dancing, and even Ghost.

As much crap as people give him I always admired Patrick Swayze as an actor and more so a person.  He went through a lot of hell and managed to get through it only to be diagnosed with Stage IV pancreatic cancer.  If you want to learn a little more about Patrick Swayze check out the Wikipedia page about him.  I learned even more than I already knew by reading that.

It’s sad that he could not win the fight but honestly the guy never seemed to slow down one bit leading many to believe he was not really fighting anything at all.

RIP Patrick Swayze

R.I.P. DJ AM (Adam Goldstein) – 1974-2009

Travis Barker & DJ AM
Travis Barker & DJ AM

I got home around 2:30am this morning when I checked Twitter before shutting my eyes on an amazing day.

Sadly I read something I wish was not true.  DJ AM was found dead in his NYC home.

Seriously?  WTF.

Having personal battles in his life, it was stated that the popular DJ who has worked with a whole slew of folk including Crazy Town, Jay Z, and most recently Travis Barker ended his life by an apparent drug addiction.

Having narrowly escaped death not even a year ago from a fatal plane crash it appears as if he simply could not deal with life anymore and made a terrible decision to pull the plug on his life.

Travis Barker tweeted the following this afternoon:

Don’t know how i am gonna play 2night but i am for AM. My brother is gone.i love u and miss u, i’ll never forget all the good times we had. I’ll never forget everything we’ve been thru and every time i play the drums i’ll think of you. U were an amazing friend/DJ/human being. Rest In Peace my brother, this really fucks me up.

It’s just sad to see such talent just end it all.  He made a powerful impact on so many other artists…

I appreciate all music out there so obviously I was familiar with some of his work but not all of it.  I do know that he was too young to leave this world the way he did.

Perhaps the most stand out DJ AM material to me is that of the DJ AM and Travis Barker (TRV$/DJ-AM) mix tapes that are available on the internet.  The TRV$/DJ-AM mixes are available for download free of charge.  If you have not heard them before you should check out what the late DJ and drumming sensation Travis Barker created.  The mixes incorporate live drumming by Travis Barker along side DJ AM spinning just about anything he could get his hands on.

RIP DJ…

A Different Memory Of Michael Jackson

We all know what happened today…  The world paid tribute and said goodbye to one of the most important people in music history.  Michael Jackson you will be missed.

A lot of people remembered Michael Jackson today.  I chose to not watch the media circus that was the public viewing/memorial for the late singer.  Instead I hung out at work all day and tried to keep up with all the memories going on in my head.

With all of the memories going on in my mind about Michael Jackson one seemed to stick out over the others.  The memory is not even of a song that Michael Jackson created or a movie that he was in.  The memory is a song by the experimental act Negativland.

The song is called “Michael Jackson”.  I used to listen to it all the time…
