Daytrader & Mixtapes @ It’s A Kling Thing House – This Sunday!!!

Screw you Valentines Day.  I never liked you.  You do nothing for me at all and I refuse to buy your stupid cards/flowers/crap to proclaim my love for someone special in my life on just one special day…  Granted I am flying solo this year, but still.  Screw you!

This weekend is going to be all sorts of red and pink and all lovey dovey and honestly, I am not into it.

Luckily for me (and those who are not suckers for V-Day) there is going to be a sweet house show this Sunday featuring two of my favorite newer acts Daytrader (from NY) and Mixtapes (from Cincinnati, OH).

The show will take place in the basement of the glorious It’s A Kling Thing House located on (you guessed it) Kling St. in tropical Akron, OH.  The fun starts at 8 p.m.  Local openers Northwestern will be performing their very first show, so make sure you get there early!

Daytrader features current and ex-members of Crime in Stereo, Latterman/Bridge and Tunnel/Monikers, the Motorcycle Industry and Divider. The band recently released an ever-so-addicting EP entitled Last Days Of Rome, a release that I have been listening to daily since it dropped.

I caught Daytrader just before Jesus Day last year at the Grog Shop and they killed it on stage so obviously I have high expectations seeing them again live.

Mixtapes, a band that just can’t seem to stop releasing songs (no, that is not a bad thing), hails from Cincinnati, OH and really have grown on me thanks to my other pop-punk loving friends who insisted I keep listening to them.  I started loving them the moment I realized I (at my thirty-ish prime) can actually identify with their lyrics as they sing about staying home and drinking Diet Coke.  Recently the band shared a two-song EP on Death To False Hope Records.  The first song is a cover to some Nickeldeon show and the other acoustic song titled “Hey Baby” bashes a Strung Out / Tim Burton loving lady who sucks.  Grab yourself a copy by clicking HERE.

It’s A Kling Thing House is a donation based DIY house so many sure you bring plenty of donation money to help out these hard-working bands.  Merch will be sold there, BYOB, and don’t be a jerk.

Looking forward to seeing everyone out there. Sunday can not come soon enough!

The Horrible Crowes

Hey to all you Gaslight Anthem fans out there.  This is for you…

Apparently Absolute Punk found out a little secret about Mr. Brian Fallon of Gaslight Anthem fame.  It would appear that Fallon is working on a little side project called The Horrible Crowes.

Last week Fallon admitted finally to the rumor that he and bandmate Ian Perkins would be working on more of a “Night Time Music” album.

Fallon has this to say on his blog Cassettes In The Mailbox:

I remember I used to have to set myself on fire to get somebody to find out about my band, either that or play with Bruce Springsteen! (wink) so I’m pumped people care enough to find out before I even told anybody outside my little circle. So thanks for caring about what I’m up to, I appreciate that a lot.

Anyway, so here’s the deal… the “night time music” is myself and Mr. Ian Perkins, and what we’re doing is writing songs and making demos at the very moment. We hope to put out a full length record sometime this year, before it gets cold again, I don’t know with whom, or when exactly it will come out. But the point is, it’s coming out. We’re calling ourselves The Horrible Crowes.

The name comes from a poem called the Twa Corbies, which means, “two crows.”

I am sure you have guessed it already, I am stoked.  Not to mention Fallon also talked about a new Gaslight record that they will be working on.

2011 is shaping up to be a good year for releases.

The Awesome: Those Darlins Share “Be Your Bro” For All To Hear

I am not sure where you are from, but I hale from Ohio and the weather SUCKS here today!!!!  Seriously, it is raining ice.  It looks like someone kicked over a gigantic Slushie machine and all the ice covered the area.  The roads are horrible, I am stuck inside and am getting restless.

So what do I do?  I sit at my computer and look for distractions.  I go through countless emails about nothing special and suddenly I saw this – a message from Those Darlins:

We finally get to share with you some music off our new LP Screws Get Loose.
We want to feel your excitement as we unleash all that we have worked so hard on.
Hope it turns you on.

Darlins

I stopped everything I was doing and checked out the song.

Suddenly I am forgetting about how craptastic it is outside and I am not worried about how long it will take me to get to work in the morning (who am I kidding, yes I am).  I love their new sound and have the feeling that this is the release that will skyrocket this kick-ass foursome into the spotlight they oh so deserve.

The new album drops in March and I can not wait to hear it. If you are as crazy as I am about Those Darlins, you can pre-order your copy today!

“Be Your Bro” With Those Darlins

Next Tuesday, Those Darlins will be releasing a 7-inch of two new new album songs entitled “Be Your Bro” and “Let U Down.” This is the first taste from their sophomore album Screws Get Loose that is dropping at the end of March on OH WOW DANG Records.

It is safe to say I am excited. If anyone knows anything about me, I am a big big Those Darlins fan.  After seeing them last Fall, it is safe to say I am stoked to hear their new release.  They changed their sound up a little and it sounds amazing.

7″ Track list
Side A) Be Your Bro
Side B) Let U Down

Those Darlins are currently touring in support of their new release. When these girls (and Linwood) tour, they tour…

The Awesome: SXSW 2011

So in 2009 I made a promise that I could not keep.  I said that I was going to go to SXSW in 2010.  Sadly it did not happen that year…

Luckily for me 2011 is a new year.

I have made arrangements with friends in Austin, TX and will be heading down there having absolutely no idea what to expect.  SXSW has been something I have wanted to attend for years now and I could not be happier to finally be a part of it.

I have been to tons of concerts and festivals throughout the years, but can’t say that I have been to something quite like SXSW.  I am looking forward to seeing as many bands (and maybe even movies) as possible in one of the, in my opinion, greatest cities in the world.

March can not come soon enough.
