One of my favorite up and coming punk acts, The Menzingers, have just released a video for “Irish Goodbyes”. This song is a brand spanking new track that will appear on a summer compilation.
Fun little fact about this video: It was taken in one take (audio / video / live footage). Impressive.
The Menzingers will be playing Cleveland soon. If you have not seen them live yet and enjoy good punk rock, then you have no excuse to not hit up this show.
Sat. June 18th @ Now That’s Class The Menzingers w/ Title Fight, Touché Amoré, Dead End Path, Light Years – $12
Finals are done and I finally have some freedom from forcing knowledge into my brain. That means more updates on good ‘ol BHP.
Let’s start off things with right way with a contest. I have not had one in a while so why not? How about an Unwritten Law contest?
Up for grabs I have 3 Unwritten Law prize packs that will include:
A CD of Unwritten Law’s Swan
An Unwritten Law t-shirt
An Unwritten Law poster
I reviewed Swan a few weeks ago when it released and wound up enjoying it. The band has been through a lot over the years and still are dishing out material. If you have not heard their new album yet, you have no reason to not try and win it then!
So how do you win one of these prize packs? Throw in a comment below with a valid email telling me what class in high school or college you absolutely hated. You know what kind of class I am talking about, the one class you would have rather chewed off your own arm to get out of the room.
Mine would have to have been the Shakespeare class I took at Tri-C years ago. I had no right signing up for that class and was absolutely miserable taking it. I wound up dropping it because I knew it was only going to hurt my GPA plus I was not about to read a Shakespeare book a week…
Last year indie rockers Superchunk thrilled their fans by releasing an all new album. After nine-years, the band dropped Majesty Shredding on Merge Records.
The band just released a very amusing video for the song “Crossed Wires”. It is worth checking out…trust me.
Poly Styrene of punk rock 70’s act X-Ray Specs passed away last night in her sleep. She passed peacefully but was fighting breast cancer that spread to her lungs and spine. She was 54-years-old.
Sadly, today was the release of her new solo album called Generation Indigo.
Yesterday I mentioned the NXNE line-up and said I was impressed.
Today I see the Lollapalooza 2011 Line-Up and am beyond thrilled. I am sure I am not the only one who feels this way.
20-years ago the festival started. It was not consistent of course with the festival ending in 1997 only to be renewed in 2003. These days the festival no longer tours the states, but year after year they always have a great line-up. This year I am really thinking about going.
I was supposed to go in 2009 but plans fell through and I had to cancel my trip. This might be the year that is happens.
Perry Ferrel has stated the festival is going to be a little more retro this year. Jim Rose Circus sideshow anyone?
Yes, there are the big names like Eminem, Coldplay, Foo Fighters, and Muse that would be all cool to see, but there are other bands in their line-up that have me itching to get to Chicago this summer.
Bands like Deftones, Ween, The Cars, City & Colour, Rival Schools, Cee-Lo Green, My Morning Jacket and Cold War Kids tickle my fancy, but Big Audio Dynamite??? Awesome.
Girl Talk too…yes, I admit it, want to see Girl Talk live. J. Roddy Walston, Explosions In The Sky, Black Lips, Atmosphere, Kid Cudi, Ryan Binham & The Dead Horses…man I can just keep going.
I’ll stop now. Let’s see if I make it out to Chicago in August. Me thinks it would be a good idea.
